She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Molly (Dorio) Verrecchia, mother of Robert E. Matthews and grandmother of Justin Nessler, Shane Nessler, Alana Owens, Darci Nessler-Bradshaw and Olivia Nessler.
Althea had worked for many years as a school teacher throughout Rhode Island before retiring.
Funeral services and burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence, will be private.
