Anthony Ventetuolo, Sr., husband of Ann (Lautieri) Ventetuolo, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on March 10th in Pompano Beach, Florida, at the age of 92. He was a lifelong resident of Cranston and the son of Joseph and Clara (Magliocco) Ventetuolo. Besides his wife of 66 years Ann, he is survived by a son, Anthony Ventetuolo, Jr. and his wife Marilyn E. (Mochelski) Ventetuolo of Cranston, and two grandchildren, Dr. Corey E. Ventetuolo of Providence, and Anthony Joseph Ventetuolo and his wife Jennah of Columbus, GA. He also leaves a sister, Mary V. Gliottone, and a brother, Donald R. Ventetuolo, both of Cranston, and was the brother of the late Joseph Ventetuolo, Jr. and Edward L. Ventetuolo. The uncle and granduncle of numerous nieces and nephews, Anthony most enjoyed sharing family history and traditions with newer generations during family holidays and visits. A 1938 graduate of Cranston High School, he excelled in athletics and received statewide honors in football and baseball. He completed advanced coursework at both the Universities of Rhode Island and Massachusetts in Public Administration and Wastewater Treatment Management to support his 37 year public service career. Anthony served for twelve years as Superintendent of the Cranston Water Pollution Control Facility until his retirement in 1978; during his tenure the facility received national recognition for excellence in operations by the Environmental Protection Agency. He continued working as a consultant for several leading national Architectural and Engineering firms, and was the recipient of numerous awards and citations from various municipalities and agencies. A US Navy veteran, he was a proud member of the fighting Seabees 86th Division from 1941-1946 and fought in the Aleutian Island chain, the Marianas, the Philippines, and at the battle of Okinawa. Anthony was active in a variety of professional and community organizations and boards. A past member of the Cranston Rotary, he served as past President of the Pawtuxet River Authority, past President of the Narragansett Bay and the New England Water Pollution Control Associations, and served on the Boards of both the Cranston Municipal Credit Union and the RI Public Works Association. In 2012, he was inducted into the Cranston Hall of Fame, in recognition of his many contributions to the community and his career achievements. While his primary focus was to provide constant support and unconditional love to his family and close friends, his lifelong passion was for the game of golf. At 92, he still loved to play a nine- hole match, and he remained as competitive as ever when on the course. He gave the gift of golf to both of his grandchildren, and relished the opportunities to play with them to see the results of his teaching. He was a past Vice-President and President of the Rhode Island Golf Association, and served as the Chairman of the USGA’s Golf Course Sloping program during its implementation. He oversaw the original sloping and rating of virtually every golf course in Rhode Island and officiated for numerous RIGA sponsored tournaments. A member of Valley Country Club since 1964, he served on its Board of Governors for six years and was active throughout his life at the course he cherished and considered his home away from home, maintaining close and lasting friendships with scores of individuals. A celebration Mass will be held on March 29th at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Church, 237 Garden Hills Dr, Cranston followed by internment at Saint Ann’s Cemetery in Cranston, with full military honors. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anthony’s memory to the Buttonhole Golf Program, 1 Buttonhole Drive Providence, RI Suite1, 02909 would be greatly appreciated.
