Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Bernadette D. (McKeon) O’Neill.
A woman of unmistakable charisma, elegance, and warmth, Bernadette had a presence that could light up any room she entered. Her radiant smile, effortless style, and gracious spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to cross her path. She was the heart of her family, a devoted mother whose love, resilience, and joy shaped generations.
Bernadette was the beloved mother of five daughters—Crystal, Charlene, Cheryl, Cynthia, and Candace—who were her greatest pride. She instilled in them the values she lived by: kindness, strength, grace, and the courage to follow their dreams. Among the many memories treasured by her family are the afternoons she spent in Newport listening to jazz, one of her favorite pastimes and a reflection of her vibrant spirit.
Gifted with a natural eye for beauty, Bernadette found joy in decorating her home. She transformed every space into a warm, inviting haven, adding thoughtful seasonal touches that made family gatherings feel magical and full of love.
Her creativity extended well beyond her home. She worked at Joyce’s Beauty Salon, where she helped others look and feel their best. Later, she served in the school cafeteria, greeting students each day with her bright smile and friendly presence. She was also dedicated to her community, serving as a poll worker and proudly contributing to the integrity of the democratic process.
Bernadette lived life with enthusiasm and passion. She was a proud member of The Red Hat Society, reveling in the friendship and fun it offered. Deeply committed to caring for the world around her, she volunteered with Save the Bay, supporting efforts to protect the natural beauty of our region.
She is survived by her beloved children Crystal Mok and her husband William, Charlene Parente and her husband Louis, Cheryl Szczepanek and her husband Paul, Cynthia Robinson DaSilva and her husband Ruy, and Candace Robinson, each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy throughout her life. Bernadette also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren Christopher and James Mok, Thomas Williams, Chelsea Hill, Tarah Daigneault, Jessica Hastings, and Matthew and Nathaniel Dufresne and eight great grandchildren who brought her endless delight. She is additionally survived by her loving siblings William, Irene, Daniel, and Matthew O’Neill, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her cherished siblings John O’Neill, James O’Neill, Marlene O’Neill, Joan D. O’Neill, Alita Pagnozzi, Shirley Orrall, Charles O’Neill, and Donald O’Neill.
As we honor Bernadette’s life, we do so with gratitude for the love she gave so freely and the beauty she brought into the world. Her glamour, her generosity, and her unwavering spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her. May we continue her legacy by showing kindness, resilience, and joy in all that we do.
