Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Raphael and Frances (Suarez) Buoncervello; brother to Margarite (Buoncervello) Betancourt. He also leaves cousins, most notably the Mendillo brothers - Angelo, Michael, Bernie and Robert - as well as Barbara and Raymond Petrarca.
Bernie excelled academically at St. Edward Elementary School, skipping fourth grade. He attended LaSalle Academy where each year he achieved a flawless report card, earning him a full scholarship to Fordham University. He received his BS degree from Fordham, graduating with highest honors.
He enjoyed painting and writing, spending time with his sister and cousins, and following the Red Sox. Bernie was a gentle, intelligent soul loved by many and will always be alive in the hearts and minds of those who knew him.
For the past few years, Bernie was a resident at Hopkins Manor which suited him well. A heartfelt thank you to all the dedicated professionals at Hopkins for their excellent care and for making Bernie feel at home. Special thanks to Michelle and Lauren who always ensured Bernie's needs were met and, most especially, for understanding and enjoying his unique personality. As Bernie would say at the end of every phone message he left his sister: "Thank you for everything and...thank you" ♥️
