Born in Clinton, Virginia, and raised in Jenkins, Kentucky, Cecil was the son of a Baptist minister, Crockett Baker, and Delphi (Anderson) Baker. At just 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served as a Seabee during the Korean War, an accomplishment he carried with deep pride throughout his life.
Cecil worked for 33 years at Providence Metalizing, where he was admired for his dedication, work ethic, and the respect he showed to everyone around him. After retiring, he returned to his family home to care for his ailing mother for nine years. When that chapter closed, he returned to Rhode Island to be near his children and their families, who remained the center of his world.
Music was Cecil’s lifelong passion. His guitar was never far from reach, and its melodies were a source of joy until he could no longer play or hear them. He also cherished simple pleasures, taking walks, playing cards with his children, and spending time with family. His faith was a steady foundation, and he carried his relationship with God with quiet strength and devotion.
Cecil leaves behind his five beloved children: twin sons Lonnie and Lennie Baker of North Providence, RI; son Daniel Baker and his wife Deborah of Warwick, RI; daughters Brenda Johnson of Skowhegan, ME, and Margaret Baker of Pawtucket, RI. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, his brother Sylvan Baker of Shelbyville, KY, and his sister Edna Mae of Jenkins, KY. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers John, Lawrence, Lee, and Curtis; his sister, Alphie Bartley; and his former wives, Leona Kenney and Margarita Morales.
Family and friends are invited to visitation on April 24, 2026, from 4–6 PM, with a service immediately following at 6 PM, at Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence, RI.
