Charles W. Smith, Jr

Smith, Charles W., Jr., age 89 of Homewood Ave, passed away on February 25, 2010 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Emily A. (Mascia) Smith. Born in Saginaw, MI., he was a son of the late Charles W. and (Sarah A. Wressell) Smith. Before retirement, Mr. Smith owned the Charles Smith Dental Laboratory, N.Providence, R.I. In addition, he was co-owner of Martin and Smith Dental Laboratory in Providence, R.I. As a skilled dental technician he had been awarded Man of the Year by the National Dental Laboratory Association for his devotion and knowledge of his profession. In addition, he was the past president of the R.I. Dental Laboratory Association and a R.I. Delegate to the National Conventions of the National Association of Dental Laboratories. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII where he proudly served his country on the destroyer, USS Stockton (DD646), in many South Pacific invasions. Devoted to his wife, family and friends he lived a full life, and made a special home for whomever entered its d00rs. He was a loving and caring husband, father and uncle. Besides his wife of over 66 years, he is survived by daughters, Madelyn LaPlume of Narragansett.R.I.and Deborah Klus, with her husband, Frank Klus of Exeter, RI and a niece, Michelle Mascia and nephew, Louis Mascia. In addition, Mr. Smith leaves a sister, Lorna Dietzel, and many nieces and nephews of Saginaw,Mi.; grandchildren, Joseph W. LaPlume of Brookline,Ma,; Michael J.LaPlume (deceased)and great-grandchild Corinna LaPlume. He was the brother of the late, Mary Acker, Sadie Young, Robert Smith and Gary Smith all of Saginaw, Mi. His funeral will be held on TUESDAY at 9:45am from The RUSSELL J. BOYLE & SON Funeral Home 331 Smith St., PROVIDENCE, with a Mass of Christian Burial in at 11 am in St. Augustine Church, Providence.
