I am Daniel's wife, soul mate, true love, with so much sympatico with him, this super intelligent, amazing, sweet soul.  It was meant to be, God's will, that we met.  For 25 years we shared the hurts which were many, the laughs at the folly of the world, joy at the good things, love of Judaism, family, music, the outdoors, sailing, and so much more.... much, much more..... deepest sharing.....

Daniel provided me my first, most basic instruction in Jewish 
learning when I was twelve. He prepared me for Bar Mitzvah at 
Temple Gates of Prayer, located in Flushing, Queens, NY. His father 
was the Rabbi.

Daniel had a certain magnetic quality which made the lessons very 
pleasant indeed. 

I am still involved in religious life, and Daniel is one person to whom 
thanks is due. Fortunately, I had some contact with Daniel on Facebook, and I had the opportunity to convey these thoughts. 

I'm sorry we lost him so soon.

Danny was a very special person to my close friend, Chassan Ted Schneider. Although I didn't know Danny well, I know that he and Ted felt very close to each other. Danny's warmth and wisdom , his perceptiveness, his caring, became very apparent.  May his memory be a blessing.  He has left the world a better place.  

Dear Schafler Family,
It is with a deep sense of loss when I heard of Dan's passing. We go back to the days of Congregation Adas Israel, when he used to come and lead services during various holidays and just to daven in the morning to make a minyan. I also served with him on the Board of Directors at Temple Beth El where he was instrumental in helping to determine which of our Torahs had to be fixed and which were Kosher.
I will miss his friendship and smile and knowledge. Rest in Peace my friend and may your memory be for a blessiing .

As a fellow camper at Ramah with Danny, I remember his mischievous smile, good looks and high spirit with a sweetness under it all.
I am glad we at least had a Zoom reunion to see many in our group this fall.   
So very sorry to hear of his sudden passing at way too young an age. 

Danny and I spent all of our grade school and high school years together. We also shared time post high school in a gap program in Jerusalem. He would often spend Shabbat time in our home. I spoke with him in late November and shared photos of the two of us at my Bar Mitzvah. Our fathers were college buddies and our two families had a special bond.  My sympathies to the entire family. Tehyeh zichrono baruch.

My first-cousin Danny
was a sensitive man
with a beautiful face
who loved Nature
and lived in its midst.

He also loved Ruth,
whom I’ve never met,
but she must be great,
having won his heart
and loved his soul.

He left us too soon
through no fault of his own.
Only God knows why…
Yet, we’ll never forget his
angelic countenance.

Words cannot express the shock and heartbreak at Daniel's sudden passing. He was kind and caring, always interested and always offering knowledge and insights into so many things. He will be missed so much.
I cherished our history together, along with your whole family-our childhood at Temple Gates of Prayer, Camp Ramah and the wonderful phone conversations-which I will miss-to check in, reminisce about earlier days, talk about our families' connections and catch up. The most recent included books-his wisdom and expertise were so helpful.
Wishing your entire family strength during these coming days.

My daughter Laurie & I are in disbelief. Daniel was sincerely interested in you as an individual. His religious, spiritual life was defined by profound depth, goodness & holiness. Oftentimes, he and Ruth were our guests at the movies.

The news about Danny sent a shock through our Ramah “aydah”, and we are so sorry for your loss.
At the last reunion, years  ago, I had a chance to walk down memory lane with Danny, his eyes twinkling as we reminisced.  Since the reunion the group loosely kept in touch and Danny was part of our zoom reunion this summer.  He warmly invited everyone to come and visit when we got through with Covid.
My heart goes out the you all and I hope that your special memories of Danny will give comfort you through this difficult time.

Dear Schafler Family,
I was sad to hear of Daniel's passing.  I remember Danny and the whole Schafler family from my many years at Camp Ramah in the Berkshires (1964-76).  Danny was a "golden boy"--he was handsome, bright, smart,  athletic, very charismatic and very much a leader.  I'm not even sure he realized how much he influenced all of us during those years.  I lost touch with him once we all finished high school and went on to college and our adult lives.  Over the past few years I started seeing his posts on Facebook.  He often posted thought-provoking  articles--informative, historical and always interesting.  He certainly had strong opinions on issues and politics.  It will be strange not to see them anymore.
May you all cherish the memories you have of Danny, and may you pass them on to the future generations.  May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.

Am deeply saddened by Daniel's passing.  We were bunkmates at Ramah Berkshires (and with Seth at Glen Spey years prior).  Daniel and I ran into each other peridically for years afterwards and it was always a pleasure to see him.   He will be missed.  Hamakom yinachem etchem and may you only know smachot.

    I just read Matt Futterman's mention of Daniel's death on Facebook and feel incredibly saddened for and with you.

    I met Danny as a young boy--handsome, bright and capable.  Even as a child, I knew him to be (like your parents) a good human being.    I am so so sorry for this great loss.
