

McGovern, Edward Joseph, 53, of Coventry, passed away on June 14, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was the most loving and devoted husband of Marybeth (Connell) McGovern. They would have celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary on June 16.Born in Providence, Ed was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Sullivan) McGovern.Employed by the State of Rhode Island, Ed was an Assistant Administrator for the Workman's Compensation Court. He was a respected martial arts instructor and an accomplished cabinet maker. Ed was an avid fan of his World Champion New England Patriots.Besides his wife Marybeth, Ed is survived by his daughters, Kayla, Emily, and Victoria McGovern, a brother, Michael McGovern (Jennifer), his sisters, Betty Christofaro (Kevin), Barbara Chappell (David), Kathleen Daniels (Curtis), Mary Simmons (Brian) and Teresa "Terri" Paquin, his Uncle, Rev. Edward J. McGovern, an Aunt, Mrs. Patricia Gill, his brothers-in-law, Robert (Debby), Thomas (Lisa), Peter (Dina) and Paul Connell (Lisa), seventeen nieces and nephews, nine grand-nieces and nephews, and many extended family members, especially Joe Santagata, whom he loved as a second father. Ed was predeceased by his brother, William McGovern.Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial on Monday at 10 AM in St. John and Paul Church, 341 S. Main St., Coventry. Burial will be private. Visitation Sunday, 3 - 7 PM in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick.
