

Edward A. McLaughlin, 94, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Elmhurst Extended Care Facility, in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Marion (Winn) McLaughlin. They were married for 63 years.Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Dr. William H. and Eva (Gibbs) McLaughlin. He graduated from Brown University in 1940 and later earned a Master's degree from Rhode Island College. Edward worked as a teacher and guidance counselor at Coventry High School for over 35 years before retiring in 1995. Edward was also a visiting professor at Providence College and Johnson & Wales University.Besides his wife, he leaves his loving children, Susan Thomas, and her husband, Josh Healey, of North Providence, Brian J. McLaughlin, of Providence, Elizabeth Karolewski, and her husband, Michael, of Smithfield, and Christine Sullivan, and her husband, Edward, of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Peter Thomas, Michael Karolewski, Edward Sullivan III, Christine Karolewski, and Mark Sullivan; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Edward A. McLaughlin, Jr., and brother of the late William, Eugene, John, and Elizabeth "Missy" McLaughlin.Edward's funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at 8:30 am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, in Saint Pius V Church, Eaton Street, Providence. Interment will follow in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00pm.
