Eugene Seymour Powers

Eugene S. “Barney” Powers, 86, passed away September 12, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Veronica “Ronni” K. (Degnan) Powers and son of the late Joseph F. and Marion G. (Seymour) Powers.

Barney was an avid sports fan and when his children were playing hockey. He could be seen at any of the many hockey rinks in RI cheering his boys on. He loved cheering on his Patriots and cooking for his in-house tailgate parties. Barney was a Veteran with the United States Marine Corps.

He was the loving father of Kevin J. Powers and his wife Elaine, James P. Powers and his wife Mary Ellen and Lisa Azverde and her husband Bob; cherished grandfather of Cory Powers (Jill), Ailise Powers, Sean Powers, Maura Powers and Adam Azverde. He was also the brother of James “Jim” Powers, Marion Long and the late Joseph F. and Richard A. Powers. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Eugene will be held Monday, September 16, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Pontarelli-Marino Funeral Home, 971 Branch Ave, Providence.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 9:00 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Saint Anthony's Church, 1413 Mineral Spring Ave, North Providence. Burial, with Military Honors to follow in the R.I. Veteran Cemetery, Exeter.
