

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Louis and Hilda (Bindman) Franklin.
A veteran of the United States Army, he served during WWII and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. Gerald went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bryant College and his law degree from Suffolk University. Mr. Franklin had a private law practice in New Bedford for many years, he worked as a special hearing officer for the Department of Justice and was the Director of Onboard Legal Services in New Bedford, which offered pro bono and low-cost legal services for those who could not afford legal counsel. He served on the Dartmouth Conservation Commission for thirty-two years, with ten years as chairman. A long-time member of Tifereth Israel Congregation, Gerald was also a member of the Jewish War Veterans. He was the founder of the Whaling City Camera Club, and he had a passion for and truly loved photography.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey D. Franklin and his wife Debbie of Syosset, NY; his daughter, Seena S. Franklin and her husband Mike Burk of Tiverton, RI; his brother, Michael Franklin of Natick, MA and four grandchildren, Matthew Franklin and his wife Amanda of NY, Rachel Franklin of NY, Marni Swiderski and her husband Michael of RI, and Kit Alberghene of PA. He was the father of the late Beryl R. Franklin and was predeceased by siblings, Anita M. Ritchkoff and Rubin Franklin.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 12:00 pm in Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Road, Warwick, Rhode Island.
