

John A. “Jackie” Scungio, Jr., 63, of Cranston, passed away unexpectedly April 17, 2010 at home. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John A. “Maloni” Scungio, Sr. and Elsa (Conca) Scungio.
John was a graduate of Roger Williams University and a retired Civil Engineer for 35 years for the State of RI; Dept. of Transportation. He was a long time baseball coach for many years for the Silver Lake/Olneyville Little League and Johnston Babe Ruth. He was an avid singer and song writer throughout his life writing many jingles and commercials. His proudest moment was writing the original song, “You’re A Star” with Peter Andreoli of the 60’s Doo Wop Music Group “The Videls and “The Trade Winds”.
In 1996 the song was put on the Very Best of The Videl’s CD and he also sang vocals on that album.
He was the beloved father of Jacen J. Scungio of Johnston and his fiancée Nicole DiLorenzo of Stoneham. He was the former husband of Lorraine Scungio of Johnston and dear friend to Joseph Lentini, Jr. of Scituate.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 am from the ROMANO FUNERAL HOME, 627 Union Avenue, Providence followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Rocco’s Church, Atwood Avenue, Johnston.
