Joseph L. McCormack of South Kingstown, RI passed away on May 23, 2017 after a brief illness. Born in Providence on November 15, 1920, he was the son of John and Jennie (Turner) McCormack. Joseph graduated from LaSalle Academy in 1938. Joseph worked as a Stevedore at Quonset Point and as a machinist at Bulova Watch and Bostitch. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marguerite (McGorty) and most recently by his second wife, Frances O'Brien. Joseph is survived by four of his five children with Marguerite -- Maureen Theodore, Terrence McCormack, Kathleen Greco, and Brian McCormack. Joseph's son Thomas McCormack predeceased him. Joseph loved spending time with his nine grandchildren -- Timothy DeVincke, Kathleen DeVincke, Thomas DeVincke, Kevin McCormack, Colleen McNamara, Karla Greco, Joseph Greco, James McCormack, and Madeline McCormack. Later in life, Joseph was blessed to have seven great grandchildren -- Hailey DeVincke, Will DeVincke, John DeVincke, Allie Jane McNamara, Evalynne Kirk, Corinne Kirk, and Violet Greco. In his childhood, Joseph played hockey and baseball. Once he retired, Joseph could be found playing golf with his son Terrence and friends at Richmond Country Club, Quonset, and other courses which were part of the "summer tour." He was an avid fan of PC Friars basketball for several decades, attending games at Alumni Hall and the Providence Civic Center (he did not refer to it by any other name). Joe Mullaney was his favorite PC coach. Joseph was a resident of Green Hill and North Providence, where he was a communicant at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Joseph spent his last years at South Bay Manor in Wakefield and the Scandinavian Home in Cranston, where he organized a golf putting league (they putted in the hallways) and insisted on a men's only table in the dining room so the guys could talk sports. Joseph will complain if Heaven does not have hot coffee, poached eggs, and Rolling Rock beer. All who knew Joseph will miss his sense of humor and unique take on life. He was one of a kind.Relatives and friends are invited to attend Commital Prayers for Joseph on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 11:00 am, in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
