Joseph T. Richards

Joseph T. Richards, 86, of Ellsworth, Maine and formerly of Smith Hill, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, at home.Born and raised in the Smith Hill neighborhood of Providence, a son of the late Joseph and Anna (O’Rourke) Richards, he lived in Mapleville for many years before moving to Maine twenty-five years ago.Joe was a foreman machinist for the Providence Journal Company for twenty-four years, retiring in 1995.He leaves two sons, Joseph T. Richards, Jr and his wife Elaine, of Smithfield, John F. Richards and his wife Lynn, of Narragansett; two daughters, Anne Richards and her husband Michael Southern, of Westerly, and Jean Casey of North Scituate; two sisters, Alice A. Curran, of Warwick and Patricia M. McDermott, of Augusta, Maine; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Richards and two brothers, Ambrose J. Richards and Hugh F. Richards.The visitation and funeral will be held Thursday morning, from 8:30 am - 10:00 am, in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Saint Patrick Church, 244 Smith Street, Providence. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Providence Rescue Mission, ℅ Sean M.
