OBITUARY

Katrina Sunkyung Scott

5 April, 1981 – 27 January, 2026
IN THE CARE OF

Russell J Boyle and Son Funeral Homes

Katrina Sunkyung Scott, age 44, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, surrounded by the love she so freely gave to others throughout her life.

She was the beloved wife of Thoranong Khongsouvankham and a devoted, fiercely loving mother whose heart knew no limits. Born in Samchuk-Koon, South Korea, Katrina was the cherished daughter of Gail B. (Hawes) Nystrom and James A. Scott.

Above all else, Katrina lived to care for others. Along with her husband, she leaves behind her beloved children: Xavier Baez, Xaidyn Khongsouvankham, Amber Khongsouvankham, Alycia Khongsouvankham, and Natalie Khongsouvankham; and grandchildren Adrien and Ava Nealy, each of whom carries a piece of her strength, tenderness, and unconditional love.

She is also survived by her loving siblings: Sarah Yungkyung Scott Kunkel, Amanda Yookyung Scott, and Matthew Breed Myungsun Scott; and by her brother-in-law, Phoutthasong Dao-Khongsouvankham and sister-in-law Khamsene Greene.

Katrina’s love language was feeding people, no one ever left her home hungry, in body or spirit. Anyone who crossed her threshold found themselves embraced, supported, and, in many ways, raised by her generous heart. She found great joy tending her garden, nurturing plants with the same patience and care she gave to everyone around her. Watching things grow brought her peace and reflected her nurturing soul.

Her home was also a refuge for animals. Affectionately teased as the “Crazy Cat Lady” by her son, Katrina lovingly cared for cats, dogs, chickens, guinea pigs, and held fast to the dream of one day welcoming a pig into her ever-growing family. Her compassion extended to all living things.

She had an unmistakable sweet tooth that perfectly matched her fierce nature and her warmth filled every room she entered. Katrina’s legacy lives on in the laughter she encouraged, the meals she prepared, the gardens she tended, the lives she nurtured, and the love she poured out without hesitation.

Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Katrina during her funeral service on Wednesday, February 4th, from 8:00–11:00 a.m. at Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. A cremation ceremony will follow at Swan Point Crematory, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence.

Katrina will be remembered always for her boundless compassion, her nurturing spirit, and the home she created wherever she stood.
