

North ProvidenceCharette, Leo E., 87, of Fruit Hill Avenue, died Wednesday at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center. He was the husband of the late Isabelle F. (Aldrich) Charette. Born in East Providence, a son of the late Leonard and Ellen Z. (Grady) Charette, he lived in North Providence for the past seven years. He had lived in Edgewater, Florida for nearly twenty years and West Warwick for many years. He was involved in many engineering and technical operations for different companies during his career, including McDonnell Douglas Corporation, where he worked on the Cruise Missile and Scan Device Projects, I.B.M., where he oversaw the requirements for helicopter wiring harnesses for flight panels, and the Martin Marietta Corporation, where he revamped the manufacturing operations, quality objectives, and cost schedules.He was also an Industrial Engineer for the General Dynamics Division of Electric Boat, in Groton, Connecticut for several years. Mr. Charette was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and Washington University with a Masters Degree in Business Administration. He was a past president of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, Chapter 110, in Rhode Island, and a senior member of the Providence Engineering Society. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during WW II and the Korean War, and was awarded a Bronze Star for meritorious service. He leaves a daughter; Paula F. Bailey of North Providence, a son; Leo E. Charette II of Daytona Beach, Florida, four grandchildren; Michael, Kaitlin and Megan Bailey and Brandon Charette. He was a brother of the late Francis Charette, Leonard Charette, Catherine Pariseault, Mildred Charette, and Rita Charette. The funeral will be held Friday, at 9:00 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Augustine Church, Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Thursday 3 - 7 pm.
