
Manny Asser, 100, of New Bedford died Sunday, February 21st. He was born in New York’s Lower East Side 100 years ago. Husband of Anita (Katz), son of the late Solomon and Julia (Epstein) Asser. He served in WWII as a Private First Class, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Manny worked for many years in the garment industry. Later, he transitioned into QC inspection at Alberox Corp. He was an avid reader with a large book collection, and was an active bowler until age 90. He was known for his great wit and humor. Manny is survived by his children Judith Brown and her husband Gary of Mattapoisett, Seth Asser and Felice Katz of Shrewsbury and his grandchildren Matt and Adam Hanson. Manny was the brother of the late Millie Mazza, Jessie, Abe, Edward and Murray Asser. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 23rd at 11am, Tifereth Israel Congregation, 145 Brownell Avenue, New Bedford, followed by burial at Plainville Cemetery, New Bedford. Shiva will be observed at the home of Judith and Gary Brown. Shiva times are Tuesday 7-9pm, Wednesday 2-4 pm and 7-9pm, Thursday 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
