

Manuel W. “Buster” Furtado, 90, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center. He was the husband of the late Madeline M. (Burke) Furtado. Born in Taunton, MA, he was the son of the late Manuel and Helen (Higgins) Furtado. Manny served his country proudly with the United States Army, during WWII. He & his father were the owners of Manny's Canteen in Falmouth, MA for several years. Manny lived in Providence for many years with his daughter and granddaughter until his passing. Manny had a passion for cooking, enjoyed building model cars and he treasured the time he spent surrounded by friends and family members. He was well known for his strong will and sense of humor. Manny could often be found sketching on old napkins while singing Frank Sinatra. He leaves his three children, William M. Furtado, and his wife, Sue, of North Providence, Warren Furtado, and his wife, Joyce, of Fall River, MA, and Helene M. Martinelli, and her husband, James, of East Taunton, MA; a sister, Janice Koch, of Leavenworth, KS; and four grandchildren, Stephanie Mastrostefano, Jeremy Furtado, Jason Furtado and Melissa Stewart. Visiting Hours will be on Tuesday morning, from 8:00 – 10:00 am, in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence.
