

Johnston Margaret B. Goodwin, 90, passed away peacefully on January 3rd, 2018, at Cherry Hill Manor, Johnston, Rhode Island, with her daughter by her side. She was the youngest daughter of Haroutiun and Haiganoush (Mikaelian) Bedigian, both survivors of the Armenian Genocide after the Ottoman Turks forced them from their village of Govdoon, Sivas in what is now Eastern Turkey. Along with the rest of her mother’s surviving Mikaelian family, Margie grew up on Douglas Avenue in Providence, before moving her family to Greenville, Rhode Island in 1963, where she resided until she moved to Cranston Rhode Island in 1998. Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Harold D. Goodwin (Ret. USN). She is survived by her loving daughter, Cynthia Goodwin Cockett, and her husband Arthur Cockett of Lisbon, Connecticut. She was also the cherished grandmother of Melissa Mooradian Browne, Jeffrey Mooradian, and Allison Sandra Cockett. Margie was very proud to be the great-grandmother of Tyler David Browne. She was the sister of Mary Versteeg, of Reno, Nevada. Margie was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Sandra Mooradian (Goodwin) and her sister Rose Young. Margie is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Margie was a member of Sts.Vartanantz Armenian Church in Providence, Rhode Island, and a long-time dedicated member of Sts. Vartanantz Lady’s Guild. Margaret graduated from Hope High School in 1945. She worked for almost 50 years as an office manager and bookkeeper in the costume jewelry industry, first with Colonial Novelty, and then Aramis Fashions. The family would like to thank Cherry Hill Manor, especially the 4th-floor staff and the activities department, as well as Beacon Hospice for their excellent care. Margaret Goodwin’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 9th, at 11:00 am at Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church (402 Broadway Providence, RI). Burial will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery (301 South County Trail Exeter, Rhode Island). Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4-7 pm at Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street Providence, Rhode Island. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, or to the Sandra Mooradian Memorial Fund (S.M.M.F.), a foundation that was established in honor of Margaret’s daughter Sandra Mooradian, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1999. All proceeds to S.M.M.F. are donated to the oncology department of Women and Infant’s Hospital in Sandra’s name.
