Born in Providence, Mary was the beloved daughter of the late George Sheehan and Helen (Moffitt) McCarthy.
She spent many years serving the City as a dedicated employee, first in clerical work and later as an inspector for Section 8, a role she held for over 20 years. Afterward, she followed another passion and became a hairdresser, where her warmth and personality shone just as brightly as her skill.
Mary lived life with a free spirit and an open heart. She loved to dance, cherished time at the beach, and never passed up the opportunity for a drive. Her favorite song, “On the Road Again,” captured her perfectly, always ready for the next adventure. Her family affectionately called her a “gypsy,” a name earned by her love of getting in the car and going wherever life led her. Whether it was traveling across Rhode Island to cheer on her sons at their sporting events, making the long drive to Delaware or Illinois to spend time with her beloved grandchildren, or simply enjoying the open road, Mary embraced every journey with joy and excitement. She especially loved watching her granddaughter Devin shine in plays and dance recitals and cheering for her granddaughter Taryn at softball games. For Mary, the road was never just about the destination; it was about the love, laughter, and memories waiting at the other end.
She was the loving mother of Nancy Farren and her husband Matthew, Monica Carreiro and her husband Joseph, Brian Hagen, and Richard Hagen Jr. and his wife Elizabeth. She was the cherished grandmother of Jennifer Maloney, Matthew Farren, Devin Carreiro, Taryn Carreiro, Elly Hagen, Abby Hagen, and Richard Hagen III, and the proud great-grandmother of Liam Maloney and Camden Noffsinger. Mary was also the dear sister of Maria Olivier, and the late George Sheehan, Henry Sheehan, and Ellen McCarthy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, January 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Pius V Church, 240 Eaton Street, Providence. Burial will be private.
