

NarragansettRobert W. "Bob" McClanaghan, 65, of Nassau Road, died peacefully Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Robert W. and Catherine J. (Farrelly) McClanaghan. Bob was the Administrator for the Division of Professional Regulation within the Rhode Island Department of Health, for twenty-one years, before retiring. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and was also the Commander of the U.S. Army General Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. He was a 1964 graduate of LaSalle Academy, and a 1968 graduate of Providence College. In 1975, Bob earned a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Rhode Island, and in 1981, he earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Providence College. Bob leaves his two children, Shana M. Gleason and Robert W. McClanaghan; a brother, Peter T. McClanaghan, (Sergeant, South Kingstown Police Dept., Retired); and two sisters, Catherine M. Cowen and Jane M. Robinson. He was also the brother of the late Daniel F. McClanaghan. The funeral will be held Saturday, at 8:00 am, from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, (Rt117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Saint Veronica Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett. Graveside burial, with military honors, will be in Saint Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours Friday 4 - 8 pm.
