

Roger A. Balthazard, 86, of Pawtucket died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 24, 2022. He was the devoted husband of the late Rose (Mennucci) Balthazard for 50 years before her death in 2007. Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Bertrand and Yvonne (Varieur) Balthazard.
Roger graduated from the former Sacred Heart Academy in 1953. After graduation, Roger joined the United States Coast Guard, where he was an Electrician, First Class Officer. He was a first responder to the tragic sinking of the Andrea Doria and obtained Honorable Discharge in 1957. Roger was then employed by the former Maplehurst Dairy, and in 1966 joined St. Johnsbury Trucking Company where he worked for 28 years before retiring in 1993. Roger was involved in several local Boy Scout organizations and the Pawtucket Slaterettes. He was an active member of the Teamsters Local 251 Retirees and a dedicated volunteer for the Saint John Paul II Food Pantry. He was a communicant of the former Saint Leo the Great Church and Saint Theresa’s Church, Pawtucket. He enjoyed his daily walks, building puzzles, bowling, watching sports, traveling, working in his yard, and spending time with his loving companion, Louise Boss.
Roger is survived by his three children, Susan Shaker and her husband John of Chardon OH, Steven Balthazard of Seekonk, MA and Sandra Jameson and her husband Kevin of Pawtucket and the late Lynda Lacasse (Dennis). He also leaves a brother, Robert Balthazard and a sister Yvonne Balthazard, both of Pawtucket. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, James Shaker, Pamela Shaker, Jennifer Arkfeld (Craig), Catherine Walukiewicz (Andrew), Kyle P. Jameson, Rebecca Wolnik (Steven), Steven Shaker (Karilyne), Jamie and Benjamin Lacasse. He was also the great grandfather of Alana Walukiewicz, Brooklynn-Rose, Griffin and Presley Arkfeld and Maximus Shaker.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 2nd from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Balthazard will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO HOME, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence, followed by a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus Church, 354 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket at 11:00 a.m. Graveside burial with Military Honors will take place in Notre Dame Cemetery, 359 Daggett Avenue, Pawtucket.
