
Rose R. (Pulner)Pavlow, 96, of Warwick, passed away January 25,2017, at the Saint Elizabeth Home, East Greenwich. She was the wife of the late Harold Pavlow. Born in Providence, Rose was a daughter of the late Morris and Dora (Wolovnik) Pulner. She was the mother of Jonathan Pavlow and wife Sandra, Susan Pavlow and husband Nicholas Smith, Joel Pavlow and wife Karen, and the late Diane Pavlow (Hallam). She was the grandmother of Matthew Clauson, Adam Hallam, Marissa Pavlow, Natasha Pavlow Hamelin, Ligia Smith, and the late Alexander Hallam. She was great grandmother of Jameson Hamelin and Rebecca Pavlow. She was sister to Warren Pulner and predeceased by brothers Benjamin, Louis and Zenas Pulner, and sister Edith (Pulner) Berger. She is survived by Zenas' wife, her sister-in-law Sara Pulner. She was a loving aunt of Alan Pulner, his sister Jeanne Holzinger and her children and grandchildren. Rose lived a long, eventful life, and had many interests. She graduated a semester early from Hope High School in Providence. She worked at the Pentagon during WWII, and later in Providence in clerical positions before marrying and starting a family. She always loved the arts. She performed dramatic monologues in high school and continued to perform as an adult in community theatres and on local radio programs. She participated in many story-telling festivals. In her late 80's she portrayed a character in local productions of "The Vagina Monologues." In the 1960's she was a member of Looking Glass Theatre. In 1970 she and two friends from Looking Glass Theatre, Naida Weisburg and Faith Barnett, launched "Improvise! Incorporated." They taught improvisational drama courses in local colleges, conducted workshops for teachers and students in public schools around RI, and presented at international workshops. They worked with dementia patients in nursing homes and adult daycare centers, including intergenerational sessions. Rose continued her work with the elderly until age 90. Over the years many articles were written about her in Rhode Island newspapers.Rose took many college courses, even traveling to England to study with the architect of creative drama, Peter Slade. She earned a Masters degree in Creative Drama from Goddard College, VT, at age 50. She wrote a chapter in the published book, Creative Arts with Older Adults.She loved to travel with her husband Harold, and continued her travels with friends after his death. She loved meeting new people and made friends every place she visited. Rose was very involved in her community. She was a founding member of The Warwick Arts Foundation, and The Apponaug Improvement Association. She was very active in her children's schools. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years. Rose was a longstanding, active member of Westminster Unitarian Church in East Greenwich. She was a member of the Board, sat on many committees, taught Religious Education classes, helped fund raise, and was a member of the Women's Group. Her love for people, devotion to her family, creative spirit, boundless joy and energy, and colorful wardrobe drew people of all ages to her, her entire life. These are the threads that were woven into the rich fabric of Rose Pavlow's life. The Memorial service will be held Monday evening, February 13, 2017, at 7:00 pm in the Westminster Uniterian Church, 119 Kenyon Avenue, East Greenwich, to which relatives and friends are invited.
