Ruth S. Garland

She was the beloved wife of the late Richard R. Garland Sr. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Elizabeth (Scott) Cardin.

Ruth was the devoted mother of Richard R. Garland Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Cumberland, Robert Garland and his wife Mary of Cumberland, and Ronald Garland and his wife Beth of Fort Myers, FL. She was the cherished grandmother of Philip, Keri, Christopher, Robert, Mark, Michelle, Scott, Crystal, and Brittney, and the proud great-grandmother of 19. She was also the sister of the late Philip Cardin.

A graduate of West High School in Pawtucket, Ruth worked as a secretary for Amica Insurance, in the Cumberland Public Schools cafeteria, and later as a secretary for Olean Fuel in North Providence before retiring. Her greatest joy, however, was raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Ruth was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, loved playing bingo and cribbage, and enjoyed a good gin and tonic. She also shared her love of music as a member of the St. Paul and St. Hilary Church choirs and was a founding member of the Cumberland/Lincoln Community Chorus.

Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to HopeHealth Hospice Center, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
