

PROVIDENCE - ARPIN, Sarah M., 86, formerly of Chalkstone Avenue, died Monday at Harborside Greenwood Nursing Home. She was the wife of Ernest J. Arpin, Sr. They had been married for 57 years. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late David and Mary M. (Halgatian) Markarian, she had lived in the Smith Hill neighborhood most of her life. Mrs. Arpin had been an inspector for the Davol Rubber Co. for 12 years before she retired in 1979. She was a member of the Rubber Workers Union-Local 911, and was a communicant of St. Patrick Parish. Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Ernest J. Arpin, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Warwick, and Joanne Hickey of Cranston; her sisters Louise "Lucy" Nalbandian of Warwick, Anna Farrell of Cranston, Josephine Imondi of Smithfield, and Barbara Hebert of Warwick, four granddaughters and two great granddaughters. She was the sister of the late Markar and Harry Markarian, Aroxie Pilibosian and Margaret Artun. Her funeral will be Friday at 9am from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith Street, Providence. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Patrick Church, 244 Smith Street. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 4-7pm.
