

Thomas J. “The Hawk” Hannan, 71, passed away September 6, 2012 in the loving care of his wife Louise A. (Champagne) Hannan and stepson Frederick N. Krueger. He has reunited in eternal rest with his beloved deceased wife Betty-Ann (Rampone) Hannan.
Born in Providence, Tom was raised in the Wanskuck section by his paternal grandmother, the late Mary (Carmel) Hannan. He was the son of the late Edward T. Hannan. He leaves his mother Mary A. (Healey) Hannan, sisters Jeanette Specht and Mary Alice Apici, brother James Hannan, as well as several nieces and nephews and beloved friends. He is predeceased by his brothers, Robert B. and Edward T. Hannan.
When Tom was a young man, he served as a U.S. Army Reservist prior to joining the Providence Fire Department in 1967 and served as a firefighter at the Branch Avenue and Admiral Street stations. He rose to the rank of Fire Inspector before retiring in 1987.
Tom was known as a sports trivia expert and loved his Boston Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and New England Patriots. Always athletic, in his mid-life Tom played ball for the Wanskuck Gamblers and Rizzo Men’s Softball Leagues. He also helped coach minor league youth teams.
Tom not only had a compassionate heart for people in need, but also for his canine and feline friends and leaves his bedside companion Angel, his most recent canine friend.
Visitation will be held Sunday, 3-6 p.m. with a funeral service on Monday at 10 a.m. from the PONTARELLI-MARINO Home, 971 Branch Avenue, Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Edward Church, 997 Branch Avenue, Providence, followed by a graveside burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Edward’s Food & Wellness Center would be appreciated.
