

Honorable Associate Justice William G. Gilroy, Sr., of the Rhode Island Workers' Compensation Court, age 78, of Gaudet St., died Thursday, at his home. He was the husband of Joan (Parent) Gilroy and the late Barbara J. (Smith ) Gilroy.Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John J. and Loretta (Cummings) Gilroy, he had resided in North Providence and Naples, Florida.Judge Gilroy, was a graduate of Providence College in 1953 and Suffolk Law School in 1958. He was the first graduate admitted to practice in the Rhode Island Bar Association from Suffolk Law Night School. He was a member of the Bar Association for 50 years.He was a partner in the Law Firm of Cawley, Gilroy, McDonough and Sheehan. He was a former Probate Judge for the Town of North Providence and was an Assistant Director of the Rhode Island General Assembly, Legislative Council. He was an Executive Counsel to Govenor Frank Licht.He was a member of the Glades Country Club in Naples, FL, a member of the Sons of Irish Kings and past President of the North Providence West Little League. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, William G. Gilroy, Jr., a daughter, Maureen M. Hegarty, a stepson, Douglas A. Parent and 2 stepdaughters, Nancy A. Vecoli and Vanessa E. Parent, a sister, Margaret Paroyian and four grandchildren, William G. Gilroy III, Frank A. Gilroy, Michaela B. Hegarty and Christine A. Vecoli. He was the brother of the late John J. Gilroy. His funeral will be on Monday at 8:45am in the Russell J. Boyle&Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith st. Providence. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebratred at 10am in St. Pius V. Church, Eaton St., Providence. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours, Sunday, 3-7pm.
