

Amparo Acuña, 95, passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 24, 2023. She was born on June 15, 1927 to the union of Alberto and Socorro Magaña in Sterling, Colorado. She was raised in Mexico and married the love of her life Jesus Acuña on May 31, 1959 in León, Guanajuato, Mexico.
Her life’s work included being a tamale maker at Candy’s Taco House and Don Carlos Mexican Restaurant, but she especially loved being a homemaker. She loved cooking, and family gatherings always made her happy. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church. In her younger years, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by: husband, Jesus “Cielo” Acuña; parents, Alberto and Socorro Magaña; brothers, Abelino, Armando, Abelardo Magaña; and sister, Felicitas Mares. She is survived by daughters, Patricia (Rigoberto) Maldonado and Leticia Lerma; grandchildren, Laura (Christopher) Lopez, Rachel (Nicholas) Cross, Adam Maldonado, Michael Lerma and Eric Lerma; great grandchildren, Jayden Lopez, Anahí Lopez, Alessandro Lopez, Gabriel Cross, Amelia Cross and Scarlett Cross; aunts, Beatrice Vallejos and Consuelo Mendoza Magaña; in-laws, Rafael Acuña, Dolores Magaña and Cirila Magaña; special friends, Eddie Martinez and Bertha Norick as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and godchildren in the United States and Mexico.
The family of Amparo Acuña would like to thank everyone for their kindness, compassion, and all expressions of love shown, with special appreciation to the wonderful staff at Joni Fair Hospice House.
A visitation for Amparo will be held Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 9:00 AM at Imperial Funeral Home, 5450 Highway 78 West, Pueblo, Colorado 81005, rosary at 10:30 AM, and funeral service 11:00 AM. Amparo will be laid to rest at Imperial Memorial Gardens, in the Chapel of the Angels Mausoleum.
