Betty Baca, the beloved matriarch of her family, passed away, Wednesday, October 22, 2025, leaving behind a profound legacy of unconditional love and selfless devotion. She was a mother figure not only to her five children, but to her brothers, sisters, and ten cherished grandchildren, serving as the constant, warm heart of a large and loving extended family.
Betty was the loving wife of Fred Baca, Jr., with whom she shared 56 beautiful years. Her life was defined by the simple, selfless acts of service that made her an anchor for so many. She was happiest when cooking meals for a gathering, lending an empathetic ear to life's events, giving a ride to anyone in need, or excitedly cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events. Her children describe her as, everyone's best friend.
Betty attended college at what is now CSU-Pueblo, receiving her Bachelor's Degree and going on to be a registered Nurse. Betty gave her time—the most precious gift of all—to everyone she loved. She was truly selfless and adored her family and friends above all else.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Flavio and Frances Marquez, and her brother, Floyd Marquez.
Betty's loving and kind spirit will be carried forth by her surviving family, the love of her life, her husband, Fred Baca, Jr., and their five devoted children: Kurt (Sherri) Baca, Debbie Reynolds (Mike) Barr, Desiree (James) Payen, Fred (Jackie) Baca, and Laurie (Phillip) Nixon.
She is also survived by her sisters, Gloria Marquez (Alan) Zelones, Diane (Travis) Dumas, and Florence Markiewicz; her brothers, Anthony (Marie) Marquez, Rudy (Mary) Marquez, and Ben Marquez (Mike Aerne); and her ten grandchildren: Brielle, Ethan, Brandon, Dax, Teal, Noah, Nikki, Luke, Quinn, and Taylor. She will be deeply missed by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless other treasured people whose lives were forever touched by her unconditional love.
