Eli Jon Fowler was suddenly called home to be with his Heavenly Father on May 18, 2021, in Denton, Texas, where he was happily living out his lifelong dream of serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Eli was born to Cody Fowler and Kimberly Moon Fowler on March 14, 2001, in Provo, Utah. He lived most of his life in Pueblo West, Colorado, and graduated from Pueblo West High School in 2019.
He was preceded in death by his cousin, London Ann Moon, and his beloved cat, “Captain Jack Sparrow.” We’re sure he had a loving reunion with both of them.
Eli is lovingly remembered by his mother Kimberly Fowler; his father Cody Fowler and stepmother, Marlajo Fowler; his siblings Jessica Nelson (Evan), Nicole Fowler, Luke Fowler, and Caleb Fowler; his grandparents Donna & Jerry Moon and David & Christine Fowler; and a host of beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Eli almost always had a smile on his face; in fact, some people claim they can’t remember seeing him without it. He grinned as he teased his four siblings, played practical jokes with (and on) his friends, and worked his way around the room at any social activity.
He smiled for four years as he played soccer for his high school team. He smiled as he climbed up rock faces, careened down the slopes on his snowboard, beat anyone with the guts to challenge him at Just Dance, jumped out of an airplane with his best friend, and sang loudly, incessantly, and not too well!
A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he beamed when he received his call to serve in the Texas, Fort Worth mission in January, 2020. He bore it with grace when the pandemic temporarily halted his service in March that year, and he waited patiently for over 12 months to return, on April 27, 2021.
He’d grin from ear to ear whenever he delivered a cheesy pick-up line to get a date … and it worked! He was sure to be smiling at the center of a large gathering of pretty girls, which is where he most loved to be. A considerate and gentlemanly date, he always made those girls smile, too.
Eli adored his family and friends, and he loved life in general, which he packed full of adventure and fun. He was a spontaneous young man of action, never procrastinating anything he wanted to do or experience, including earning his Eagle Scout and teaching himself to draw and play the guitar.
Eli had big dreams. He had been accepted to BYU-Hawaii, where he intended to study bio-medicine and vaccines. He planned to travel the world to satisfy his endless curiosity about different languages and cultures. More than anything, he simply wanted to connect with people and make them feel loved and important.
We rarely saw Eli without a smile on his face, and we believe that’s how he still wants to see all of us. We know we’ll be with him again; may God help us keep smiling until then.
We would like to give special thanks to Eli’s best friends AJ, Will, Jacob, and Anton, as well as to their families. We also express our heartfelt gratitude to the leadership of the Pueblo Stake, the Pueblo West 1st & 2nd wards, the University Ward, the Fort Worth Texas missionaries, and mission president Jeffery Chapman and his wife. We will never forget the Denton, Texas ward and stake leaders and members, the officers on the scene, or the funeral directors and cemetery personnel for their kindness and compassion. We have experienced countless acts of service and generosity from friends and family, for which we are very grateful. We especially appreciate the innumerable prayers said and love expressed on our behalf, and we want everyone to know that we have been buoyed and supported by your love.
A public viewing (closed casket) will be held at the LDS church located at 4720 Surfwood Ln in Pueblo, CO from 8 AM – 10 AM on Saturday, May 29th, 2021.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM in the same location, Saturday, May 29th.
