I always enjoyed going to mass with my grandma and fishing with her n grandpa Lucero n watching her make homemade tortillas n muendo n all the good conversation s we had

I was lucky enough to get to know Mariana over the last two years as we visited La Junta often . I felt welcome the first time I stepped into her home and that has not changed as I have grown closer to this wonderful family . My most treasured time was spent sitting at the kitchen table with Grandma and cooking loaded baked potato soup  and peanut butter cookies. I wasn’t sure if she would enjoy the soup as she has never had it . I had no reason to worry as she are two bowls that night and offered it to everybody who came  by and saying how much she likesd it and my cookies. We sat at the table and talked for over 3 hours about her childhood memories of her parents , raising children and everything in between. What I learned that night was what a strong  beautiful woman she was and how difficult it must have been raising 12 children before so many modern conveniences we take for granted . And she made it seem like it was no big deal . And she told me how lucky she was to have such loving attentive children and that she appreciated all of them and loved being the place where everyone came to spend time together and loved that her house was never empty and enjoyed visits from all of her friends and family . I loved our visits and bringing special gifts for her . My last memory is of taking grandma to the hospital to visit my favorite uncle (Chuck)  and it was snowing so she made sure I borrowed gloves and a scarf . When we came home and I handed her her scarf she said no that she loved the way it looked on me and wanted me to keep it. As it turns out it is a beautiful teal scarf that Aunt Lu. Knitted and it seems fitting that I wear if today to mourn her  loss and celebrate her life . Thank you for always being so sweet and accepting. I am so thankful to have spent as much time as I did with you and I remember telling you  how much I loved La Junta and you asked if I would ever move here  and now I am moving here  this week . Goodbye and Rest In Peace Mariana

and George Michael Lucero. 
She is survived by her sister, Bertha Archuleta;
brothers, Jose (Irene) Moreno, and Edward (Alicia); 
her daughters, Lu Lucero, Carmen (Gil) Apodaca, Connie Romero, Irene Lucero,and Sue Lucero (Ron); 
Leonard Lucero and Felix Lucero;
Carlos Lucero; 
Phillip (Mona) Lucero;
27 grandchildren;
30 great-grandchildren;
2 great-great grandchildren;
and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
