Mary Jimenez was born in the month of August in 1929, in the small town of Portland, Colorado. She was affectionately known as “Marie”. She spent her youth in Florence, Colorado and graduated Class Valedictorian from Florence High School. After meeting and marrying her husband Albert and having her children, she and her family moved to Pueblo, Colorado where she remained the rest of her life.
Per her final wishes, she passed away in her home of many years on April 29th 2022 at the age of 92.
Mary was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Joseph's Parish where she was often seen at Saturday evening mass. Her faith brought her much strength and joy. Mary was a quiet and unassuming woman with a sincerity that put everyone at ease. She was known for meeting every challenge she encountered with a fighter's spirit.
She is predeceased by her husband Albert and brothers Steve Garcia and Nick Garcia. Left to cherish her memory are brother Alfred Garcia, sisters Eleanor Lucero and Josie Mata; sister-in-law Shirley Garcia, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service is planned for May 20, 2022 at 2:00pm at Imperial Memorial Cemetery. Flowers are welcome. A special thank you to the staff of Sangre De Cristo Hospice. To say she will be missed greatly is an understatement. We will always carry her memory in our hearts.
Eulogy - By:Debbie Romero (Mary Jimenez daughter)
My mother was everything to everyone. Wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She performed all these roles with love and pride. She was not only my mother but my best friend. I was able to talk with her about everything and when seeking her advice she always proved to be right.
My mother was her high school class valedictorian and held many responsible jobs during her lifetime. Her final position before retiring was working for the Pueblo County District Attorney’s office. Many people looked up to her and sought out her knowledge and expertise.
My mother was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan. It was known that you should never call her when the Broncos were on. I remember one particular game, in Denver, that was played during a snowstorm and most of the fans in the stadium had gone to the warmth of their campers. Except my mother. When we finally came out and braved the snow again, we happened upon an all but empty section, where a small mound of snow sat. That small mound of snow, was my mother, a true Broncos fan.
I am sure everyone has their own favorite memory of my mother. My favorite memory of my mother is her life. The life she lived. I know she is looking down on us all and sending us the strength to move forward.
Eulogy- By: Ryan Romero (Mary Jimenez grandson)
My grandmother was one of the sweetest and most caring women you could know. Anybody would have loved to have her for their grandmother. She was always “superwoman” to me because I never knew how she did it all. Cooking, cleaning, gardening and all while working a full time job.
My fondest memories will always be of me being in the kitchen helping her make her famous tortillas and debating the football season with her. She was the only grandmother I knew of who loved football so much. To me she will always be the best grandmother a grandchild could ever have. I will love her always and forever.
