

Ruth Evelyn Hasty, 82, passed on December 13, 2010 just a few hours after her birthday on December 12th at her new home in Primrose Retirement Community in Pueblo with family at her side. Born in 1928 to Leyton and Lucille Yates in Claremore, OK. She had one sister, Mildred, born September 17, 1935 and who died March 27, 2002. Ruth’s husband, James “Robert” LeeMaster died in 1958 in Oklahoma. Her ex-husband from La Junta also survives. A lifetime educator, Ruth retired from teaching in Kim and then La Junta, Colorado to work for three years with teens in the Colorado State Hospital in Pueblo. She then took a teaching position in Baytown, TX in 1986 and retired from that system at age 72. Ruth was nominated for “Teacher of the Year” for both Colorado and Texas during her long educational tenure in both states. She taught everything from elementary school to music to junior high science and then special education. She was author of “How to Teach Dyslexics and Other Non-Readers”, which allowed the reader to help conquer dyslexia issues within their own family. Survivors include daughter Marilyn Stangl (Roger Jensen) Penrose, CO; son Lester (Shirley) Hasty, Jr., Wray, CO; and beloved nephew/son Dee (Janet) Bramley, Bennington, NH; nieces Leigh Hodges, Sacramento, CA; and Mary Imes, Plano, TX. Grandchildren are Janna Blundell, Penrose, CO; Abigail Stangl, Limon, CO; Johnathon Hasty, Rule, TX; Steven, Cheryl and Kristen Hasty, Wray, CO. A great-grandson also survives, Leyton Blundell, Penrose, CO. She had grand nieces, nephews and great grand-nephews and a grand-niece as well. Ruth had many special friends including but not limited to Beth Klob, La Junta, CO; Robert and (daughter from another mother) Badri Johnson, Houston, TX; and Kelly Flock, Houston, TX. Far too many special people to name them all! A Celebration of Life for Ruth will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Primrose Retirement Community, 5055 Outlook Blvd., Pueblo, CO at 11 a.m. Please bring your happy memories of Ruth as this will be a joyful occasion to honor her life and memory. No flowers are requested; any contributions in her honor should go to Salvation Army or the Sangre de Cristo Hospice.
