

Steve passed on to his heavenly home on Thursday, September 30, 2010 after bravely fighting several serious health issues the past two years. Born January 7, 1938 in Hudson, Colorado to Joe DeLaTorre & Lupe Negrete, both deceased. Predeceased also by daughter Valarie Anderson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin in January 2006. Survived by his loving wife Carolyn (Alyea) DeLaTorre and two daughters, Jean Marie Vossekuil and Jennifer DeLaTorre, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; mother-in-law Joan Alyea of Pueblo; step sons, Devin Gonzales of Austin, Texas and Christian Gonzales of Pueblo, Colorado as well as one step-daughter, Jessica Gonzales of Denver, Colorado. Steve also is survived by one brother, Joe (Edie) DeLaTorre of Pueblo, and one sister, Rachel (Roger) Holder of Palm Springs, California, as well as four half sisters, one grandson, five granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren & many nieces, nephews and cousins. Steve was a member of the class of 1956 of Central High School, Pueblo, Colorado and retired in November of 2000 from the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo after serving 29 years as a Lieutenant of Public Safety, having moved up through the ranks and actively working for all State employees’ rights through the AFSCME union. Steve honorably served in the United States Air Force in the Strategic Air Command (SAC) from 1956 to 1960. Per Steve’s request, cremation with no viewing. A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sangre De Cristo Hospice or Family Worship Center of Pueblo, Colorado in his name. Condolences may be sent to the family through the funeral home. Steve was a kind and generous person who was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
