Mrs. Helen Hopkins Bowers of Petersburg, Lincoln County, TN passed away on Jan. 9, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence A. Hopkins and Dorothy Lassiter Hopkins, and sister Clarice Hopkins Jones all of Pulaski. She is survived by her son, Jim Bowers and his wife Pat, and grandchildren, Megan (James) Weems, and Aaron (Jenny) Bowers, sister Dottie Hopkins Galbaugh and loving brother-in-law Bill Jones. She had two nephews and two nieces and an assortment of great nieces and nephews. The family extends heartfelt thanks to her many friends and caregivers at Bailey Manor.
A graduate of Martin Methodist and Middle Tennesse State College, “Miss Helen” was a much loved and respected teacher in Lincoln County for nearly 50 years. An accomplished athlete herself, she coached both boys’ and girls’ basketball. She was also recognized for serving as one of the first Jr. Beta Club sponsors, a school librarian, assistant principal, science fair organizer and teacher, math teacher, and mural painter. She had a positive impact over multiple generations of children for many years. She was a vital member of her community and served as both teacher and elder in the Petersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In retirement she honed her skills as an artist and became very accomplished. She will be remembered well and fondly missed.
Private graveside services will be held in Maplewood Cemetery, Pulaski, TN.
