Louis Ronald “Ron” Levis, age 87, of Punta Gorda passed away February 6, 2023. The middle son of Louis and Kathryn Levis, Ron was raised in the Philadelphia area and spent his summers in Ocean City, New Jersey, where he developed a love of boating and being on the water. He was also an enthusiastic photographer, a fan of jazz and big band music, and enjoyed serving in various community organizations. Ron will be remembered by many for his humor; he never missed the chance to include a (sometimes cringe-worthy) pun in the conversation.
Ron graduated from Penn State University with a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and had a long career in the energy industry. His work included designing and building reactors for nuclear submarines and managing projects for energy companies and government contractors in Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, and near the National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Outside of work, Ron spent time with his family boating on lakes and rivers and serving the community through work with the Lions Club.
After retirement, Ron and his wife of 53 years, Connie Levis, moved to Punta Gorda, Florida, where Ron was an active member of Burnt Store Isles Boat Club, serving as Fleet Captain and Commodore and organizing and participating enthusiastically in countless luncheon cruises and Commodore’s Balls over the years.
Ron is survived by his daughter Kathryn Levis, daughter Janet Tomko and son-in-law James Tomko; granddaughters, Audrey and Elinor Tomko, brother Dr. Barry Levis and brother-in-law John Williams. He will be missed by his many beloved nieces and nephews and their families and by his close companion of the last several years, Patricia Mulligan.
Ron’s family requests that you honor his memory by thinking of him while taking a boat ride and by contributing to your favorite charity. You may send condolence messages and memories of Ron to the family. Puns enthusiastically accepted; we promise to laugh, just like Ron would have liked.
