Richard G. Ayers of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2020 in Salem, MA. He was born May 27, 1942 in Framingham, MA. to Harvey L. Ayers Sr. and Rita (Duffy) Grace, who both precede him in death.
Richard graduated from Lynnfield High School before serving from 1961 to 1965 in the United States Air Force. He later went on to own and operate Anasquam Marina in Ipswich, MA. Richard loved the water, fishing and boating. He also loved Boston sports and playing poker. Richard was a true gentleman, kind to all and loved by all. He was very handy and took pleasure in decorating the house with lights at Christmas time. Richard found daily enjoyment caring for his sister’s dogs (Marita, Sadie and Megan), and would always have a story to tell about what they did that day.
He is survived by his children, Richard and Michelle Ayers, of Ipswich, MA; his siblings, Kathleen Campbell and brother in law Alex Campbell of Oakland Park FL, Joseph D'Antona of Las Vegas, NV, Roberta Cordero and brother in law Richard Cordero of Peabody MA, and Rita D’Antona of Port Charlotte FL, sister in Laws Janice Keeney and Francine Farley, nieces, Jillian Fay, Gina Pennachio, nephews, Harvey Ayers, Nicholas Ayers. Anthony D’Antona, Leo D'Antona, Edward Breneman and wife Kristine, as well as several great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, George Grace, and his brother, Harvey L. Ayers JR.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 1-2 pm with a service beginning at 2 pm at Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home; 635 E. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda, FL 33950. Donations to local veterans are appreciated in lieu of flowers.
