Hardai Thakoorpersad

Hardai Thakoorpersad, lovingly known as Dularie, passed away on July 19, 2025, at the age of 85, in her home in Queens Village, NY. Born on September 16, 1939, in LaJalousie, West Coast Demerara, Guyana; she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James, in February 1979.

Dularie’s life’s journey in service to her children brought her to the U.S. in 1981, where she found a welcoming community at First Presbyterian Church in Jamaica. Her dedication to her faith was matched only by her deep love for her family and friends, whom she cared for selflessly throughout her life. A true nurturer, Dularie had a remarkable talent for cooking and always ensured that anyone who visited her, left with something to eat, great conversation, and a smile.

She is survived by her five children—Krishna (Janet), Nalini (Mohamood), Robin, James (Tess Ann), and Andrew (Sandy)—as well as twelve grandchildren—Ricky, Sherry, Rebecca, Christopher, Jennifer, Reshma, Roshana, Natasha, Roxanne, Gabrielle, Kevin, and Ravin—and seven great-grandchildren—Rachel, Rose, Eliza, Alexander, Violet, Vanessa, and Nyla. Her siblings, Popaley, Parbati, Vishnu, and Mangal, also carry her memory in their hearts. Dularie’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, support, and social connection. She cherished and nurtured every interaction and relationship she made until the end.

In this time of mourning, the family is deeply grateful for the kind thoughts and prayers from all who honor the life of Dularie—a dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many with her warmth and compassion.

A visitation will be held at R. Stutzmann & Son, located at 224-39 Jamaica Ave, Queens Village, NY, 11428, on July 22, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. This visitation will be livestreamed at https://fweb.tv/190221.

A service will take place at the same venue on July 22, 2025, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Final prayers are scheduled at R. Stutzmann & Son on July 23, 2025, from 7:00 am to 7:45 am.

Cremation will occur at All Souls Chapel and Crematory, located at 72-02 Astoria Blvd S, East Elmhurst, NY, 11370, on July 23, 2025, from 9:00 am to 9:30 am.
