Born on June 5, 1949, in Astoria, New York, John was the beloved son of the late Joseph P. Immordino and Julia Immordino. He graduated from Rice High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Hunter College. John dedicated over 30 years of service as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service.
John’s greatest joy was his family. He shared 39 wonderful years of marriage with his wife and life partner, Monica — the deepest love of each other’s lives. Together, they raised their son, John Joseph, of whom John was immensely proud.
A true people person, John had a gift for conversation, a heart for community, and a presence that put others at ease. He was known and loved for his friendly voice, great smile, and unwavering honesty. He had a lifelong love of sports and spent many years as a community referee for both basketball and baseball. A fan of music and meaning, his favorite artist was Bob Dylan.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Madonna. He is survived by his loving wife Monica, their son John Joseph, and his siblings: Mary (Dominick), Julianne, Theresa, Frances (Roberto), Gabriel(Kris), Ave (Fred), Rosary (Donald), and Joseph. He will be deeply missed by his extended family, friends, neighbors, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation will be held at R. Stutzman & Son Funeral Home, 224-39 Jamaica Avenue, Queens Village, NY 11428 on Sunday, June 29, from 2–4 PM and 6–8 PM, and again on Monday, June 30, from 9–11:30 AM, followed by a service at 11:30 AM. Burial will take place at Pinelawn Cemetery.
John’s memory will live on in the countless lives he touched with kindness, conversation, and connection.
