Lena Elizabeth Ann Rettie

Lena Elizabeth Ann (Beswick) Rettie 82, of Queens Village NY, beloved wife for 45 years of Rupert George Rettie, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. She was born on March 31, 1939, in Paradise, St. Elizabeth Jamaica. Lena was the third born child of fifteen to Charles & Enid Beswick. From an early age she developed a caring streak and guided her younger siblings who came after her. From an early age Lena demonstrated a yearning for learning and attended Excelsior College, and then the University of the West Indies (UWI) where she studied nursing. Lena migrated to London in 1967 and began working at Park Royal Hospital. She soon met her future husband Rupert.

Lena migrated to the United States in the mid-1970s where she and Rupert settled in the Bronx NY. While in the Bronx, Lena worked at Parkchester Hospital and attended Hunter College to further her nursing career. After graduating from Hunter she started her employment with Prospect Hospital in the South Bronx. In 1981, Lena and family moved to Queens Village NY while she continued to work at Prospect Hospital. In 1983 she began to work at Flushing Medical Center and retired in 2004.

Besides her loving husband Rupert, Lena leaves behind her sons Geo Rettie, and his wife Sherrie. Roger Rettie, and his wife Marcie; four brothers- Lincoln, Rudell, Frank and Earl; a half-brother Payman; three sisters - Rose, Donna, and Dawn; eight grandchildren, Jaeden, Julian, Taylor, Roger II, and Cameron, IJ and Maria, and Tasha; two great-grandchildren Jaeda and Jaxon. She also leaves behind members of her extended family, Ian Reittie, Neal Parnther and family, and Marlene Bourne and family. As a member of a large family, Lena also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends and their families, located in the United States, England, Jamaica, Canada, Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Belgium.
