Obituary of Lucien Rivière

IN THE CARE OF

R. Stutzmann & Son

Lucien Rivière was born in Port-au-Prince Haiti on June 17th 1941. He was the sixth son of Simone Durocher Rivière and Maurice Rivière. He was predeceased by his five loving brothers: Maxime, Roger, Jean, Guy and Claude. As a young adult, Lucien traveled a lot and called many countries his home: Mexico, Puerto Rico, Morocco and the US. He was working for the typewriter company Olivetti in Missouri when he met his soon to be wife. Lucien was a loving husband to his wife Simone Staco Rivière whom he married 52 years ago in Chicago, Illinois. He was an attentive and a doting father to his daughters Pascale Rivière Guilliod and Martine Rivière Gros ,and to his son Marc-Adrien Rivière; all three had an amazing childhood growing up in Haiti, after the family relocated there in 1975. His grandchildren Emilie and Marc Guilliod, Livia and Magnus Gros, Angeline and Robert Maurice Rivière brought Lucien tremendous joy, and moving back to the US in 2010 gave him the opportunity to be with them daily. Lucien was a hard worker, who was disciplined and ethical. He was the first to wake up and last to go to sleep. A man of faith and a proud Roman Catholic, he watched mass daily and would recite and sing along. He was savvy and knowledgeable in all things of the world: botany, literature, fauna, cuisine, chemistry, history. You name it, he knew it. He was a veritable encyclopedia. He was fluent in French, Creole, English, Spanish and could even hold his own in German. He loved music: Classical, Country, Jazz, Haitian Boleros. He enjoyed watching films, especially musicals and mafia movies. He would laugh out loud during all the seventies sitcoms like Sanford and Son, All in the Family, Good Times, The Jeffersons, Taxi...just to name a few. He loved to draw and he adored writing and telling stories, especially about is childhood, his experiences as a boy scout or his adventures with his cousins and friends. He was a friend to all who knew him as his smile was wide, his laughter loud, and his heart warm. When he greeted you, he shouted your name! He will be missed by all who loved him: his wife and kids, his grandchildren, his son in law Eduard Gros, his daughter in law Cassandre Kernizan Rivière; his sisters in law Ginette Rivière, Marie Helene Rivière, Mireille Rivière, May Cuvilly and Gabrielle Staco; his brothers in law Guy Cuvilly and Clarenns (Bobby) Staco; Eva Sanchez; his many nieces and nephews many of which were his godchildren; his cousins the Rivières, Durochers, Dalencours, Chenets; Reginald Guilliod and the countless friends he made during his 81 years on earth. Lucien Rivière was a gem He will always be loved and will never be forgotten. A visitation for Lucien will be held Friday, January 27, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at R.
