Mary B. Parella

Mary Parella passed away on June 10, 2014 at 2:29AM while sleeping in LIJ Hospital in New Hyde Park, NY. She had been sent there from Brandywine Assisted Living Facility, where she had been residing for the last three years, when she started having trouble breathing. She was 84 years old when she died from a combination of emphysema and pneumonia. Mary was married to her husband John for 64 years when he died three years before her. She is survived by her two children - Susan and John, Jr., and her three grandchildren – Julie, Michael and Jon, plus one great-grandchild Max. She is also survived by her brother Edward Fruling of Little River, SC and her sister Dorothy Marchese of Bayport, NY. Mary enjoyed bowling, bingo, sculpting, and summers in Lattington, NY by the beach. She was active in Queens Village politics and was President of the Queens Village Civic Association for several years. People remember Mary and John attending political rallies and participating in beautification programs in Queens Village. She will be remembered as someone who loved nature and her garden, and studied holistic healing.
