Maureen E. Ferrara

It is with great sadness that the family of Maureen E. Ferrara (née Dougherty) announces her passing on August 23, 2024, at the age of 77, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 6, 1947, in Queens, NY, Maureen was a lifelong resident of New York. She attended Long Island City High School and later Queensborough Community College. Maureen’s career included positions at Hearst Publishing, NPD Group, and Sears in Lake Success, where she was respected for her dedication and work ethic. She was a longstanding member of the Rosary Society, and an active parishioner at Saint Gregory the Great Church in Bellerose, NY, where she volunteered for school lunch duty and the annual festival.

Maureen was a devoted wife, mother, nana, great-grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, William; her children, William, Daniel, and DawnMarie (Brad); her grandchildren, Daniel, William, Anthony, Ryan (Kerri Ann), Nicholas, Michael, Adriana, Alyssa, Isabella, Jenna, Bradley, and Keegan; her great-grandchildren, Hadley and Macie Mae; and her brother, Warren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth Staker and Irwin Dougherty, and her sister, Muriel Carter.

To her grandchildren, Nana was the heart of the family; insightful, selfless, devoted, strong, extremely loving, and funny. To her friends, Maureen will be remembered for her smile and sense of humor. She was many things to many people…. But she was everything to everyone!

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:45 a.m. at Saint Gregory the Great Church, located at 242-20 88th Avenue, Bellerose, NY 11426. The family would like to thank the staff at Long Island Jewish Hospital and Calvary Hospital for their compassionate care during Maureen’s illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lustgarten Foundation or Calvary Hospital Bronx in honor of Maureen’s memory.
