Stanley J. Sutherland

Stanley J. Sutherland, age 86, of Arverne, New York passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Stanley Joseph Sutherland was born in Woodpark, St. Mary, on the island of Jamaica. Stanley was the first child of ten children born to Sylvester and Laura Sutherland. Stanley attended Ramble All-Age-School and went on to Buxton High School in Kingston and then to the Commercial Academy. After graduating from the Commercial Academy, he joined the staff of the Land’s Department. After leaving the Land’s Department, he went on to work at Motor Owners Mutual Insurance Company, and then to the Agricultural Marketing Corporation as Branch Manager. In Jamaica, Stanley was an ardent member of St. Michael’s Anglican Church, situated on Victoria Avenue, in Kingston. In 1983, Stanley migrated to the United States to join his wife and two sons. He then obtained employment with the New York Life Insurance Company as an Insurance Agent until his retirement. Stanley continued being a devoted Christian in the United States. He joined the St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, serving as an usher for many years. Stanley loves cricket and reading. He leaves behind three sisters, four brothers, children, other relatives and friends. May his soul rest in peace and rise in glory.
