Born in a hospital in 1925 in Gardiner, Maine, Barbara was raised in Quincy. After graduating from North Quincy High School, she volunteered to serve in the U.S. Navy Waves, (women accepted for volunteer emergency service).
Barbara was predeceased by her dear husband, Richard (Dick) Gilliland, her son, Donald and brother Eugene Ryder. She is Survived by her son, David and his wife, Jane, daughter in law Carolyn, grandson Douglas and his wife Katherine, granddaughter Beth Zapata (J. Carlos), great grandchildren, Zoe Zapata and Nicholas Zapata, good friend Helen Duncan and niece Virginia (Chickie) Yergeau.
As Barbara wished, there will be no services. Burial will be private at a later date.
