
Mary Hilja Aho, a beloved resident of Quincy, Massachusetts, passed away on November 2, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on November 5, 1947, in Weymouth, MA. Devoted daughter to the late Charles A. Julian and Hilja Mary Julian (Maki). Mary grew up in Weymouth and Pembroke before moving with her parents to Quincy. She was a graduate of Silver Lake High School and pursued her passion for music at the New England Conservatory of Music, where she studied piano.
Mary held a variety of jobs throughout her career, with her last position being at Big Brothers Big Sisters.
In 1986, she joined the West Quincy Congregational Church, where she served as the church organist and pianist. In 2000, Mary married her beloved, the church's pastor, Rev. Keijo Aho, a widower. They enjoyed many happy years together at the church parsonage until Rev. Aho's passing in 2015. Mary was the loving sister of the late Lawrence Julian of Weymouth and John Julian of Louisiana. She is survived by several nephews, several nieces and cousins, and her step-children Elizabeth Aho and Arnold Aho of Quincy, John Aho (Deanna) of Bridgewater, and Helena Wright (Greg) of Upper Darby, PA, along with six step-grandchildren.
Mary had a wide range of interests, including gardening, nature, cooking, and solving all kinds of puzzles. Her love for languages was evident in her collection of dictionaries, ranging from French to Hindi to Swahili. She shared a special bond with her step-daughter, Elizabeth, over their favorite game show, "Jeopardy," where Mary excelled at answering clues featuring foreign words.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff at the Pat Roche Hospice House and BID Milton for their compassionate care.
In the words of John 5:24, "He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. at The Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA, with graveside service to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, 815 Willard St, Quincy, MA, from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
