Robert Chin was born in Toisan, China on August 7th, 1948. In 1951, Robert and his older brother, Chuck, were homeless because his mother, Cho Lin Chin was imprisoned and tortured for a three-month period, as a result of Communist China’s Land Reform Movement but reunited upon her release. After being freed in 1952, Robert, his mother and older brother moved to Guangzhou, China, then to Kowloon, Hong Kong. They immigrated to the United States in 1956 to reunite the family with his father in Washington, DC and settled in Boston in 1960. Robert was an award-winning bartender and lived a full life wanting to entertain those around him with a song or a home-cooked meal. Robert loved to eat and dance, as well as seeing his family and friends enjoy his cooking at every family BBQ. Unfortunately, his life was cut too short, but he has left us with many happy and funny memories and values of family devotion, resilience, and perseverance across several generations. He will be greatly missed.
There will be a visitation and funeral for Robert will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Deware Funeral Home, 576 Hancock Street, Quincy, MA 02170. Interment to follow from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at St. Joseph Cemetery, 990 Lagrange St, Boston, MA 02132.
