

Shirley J. (Holbrook) Purpura, 80 of Quincy passed away peacefully September 21, 2016 at her home surrounded by family and friends. After her valiant fight with Breast Cancer and her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and many supporters carried her through many months of grueling Chemotherapy on her PINK Tuesdays. She will be remembered for her loving smile and devotion to her family.
Beloved wife of John B. Purpura. Loved mother of John P. Purpura, Robert G. Purpura and the late James E. Purpura. Devoted grandmother of 5 and great grandmother of 7. Shirley is also survived by her sister Liz Holbrook-Dicenzo, brothers Robert Holbrook, Dean Holbrook and Danny Kamppila, and the late Luke Holbrook, Garfield Holbrook, Sondra (Holbrook) Savageau, Edward Holbrook, Dickie Holbrook. She also leaves her two cousins who were like sisters to her, Barbara Pepin and Shirley Holbrook Fiske Mennella and loving relatives, and many PINK friends.
Shirley worked decorating cakes over 60 years at O’Brien’s Bakery, Wollaston. Shirley was a Past Matron and member of the Braintree Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem and Order of the Amaranth.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday from 4-8 PM at the Deware Funeral Home 576 Hancock Street Quincy, MA 02170. An Eastern Star Service will be held on Monday at 7 PM. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM. Shirley’s services are a celebration of her wonderful life – so PINK is requested and encouraged. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute P.O.
