

Maidia Olivia Clark Ashburn, 87, died on March 23, 2011 at the Manor Care Nursing facility in Pinehurst. One of fourteen children of Luther and Maude Clark, Mrs. Ashburn was a life-long resident of Hoke County and Raeford. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Odell Ashburn, Sr., who died in 1981, and a grandson, Michael Ashburn. She was a proud mother of four surviving children: Odell Ashburn, of Raeford, father of Natalie Ashburn of Canada; Wayne Ashburn and wife Carolyn of Raeford, parents of Leslie Ashburn Nardo (husband Mark) of Indiannapolis, Indiana; Gary Ashburn (wife Gwen) of Asheville, parents of Maggie Ashburn of Wilmington, Catie Ashburn Hester (husband Paul) of Oxford, Mississippi; Brent Ashburn of Raeford; and daughter Linda Elkins Scott (fiance Bill) of Aberdeen, mother of Scott Elkins of Cocoa Beach, Florida and Emily Elkins of Aberdeen. There are six great grandchildren. Also surviving are four siblings; sisters Ruby Saling of Mt. Vernon, Washington and Mildred Simerson of Salisbury; brothers Doug Clark (Betty) of Laurinburg and Glenn Clark (Nadine) of Hope Mills. Mrs. Ashburns work career consisted of textile jobs primarily at Burlington Industries, as well as assisting her husband in farming and raising her children. A life-long member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, she served as an elder and clerk of the session in addition to being a faithful choir member for many years. The family is thankful to the kind staff of Manor Care for the care she received for the last few years. The family will receive friends at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford from 6 to 8 pm on March 24, 2011. Funeral service will be at Bethel Presbyterian Church at 11 am on Friday, March 25, 2011.
