Throughout her career with Bell Atlantic, Anne lived and worked in New York, Florida, Georgia and Maryland. In 1979, Anne took care of her mother and moved back to Maryland. She retired from the phone company in 1989 and then became the Executive Director of the Prince George's Philharmonic for over ten years. It was here that she founded the Anne Gentry Educational Outreach Program. This is a program which provides free music instruction to deserving Prince George's County Public School students who would be otherwise unable to engage in such instruction.
In 2004, she moved to Raleigh, NC and became a resident of Independence Village in 2011.
Anne is survived by her son: Mark Gentry and wife Susan, of Raleigh; grandchildren: Dana, Matthew and Michael Gentry; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Allen Gentry and dear friend, Ralph Petrillo.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, June 11th at 2 pm at Independence Village (3113 Charles B Root Wynd in Raleigh), with family to receive friends following.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anne's memory are preferred to the Prince George's Philharmonic. Visit www.pgphilharmonic.org, select donate and place special instruction for your donation to the Anne Gentry Educational Outreach Program.
